Shibori dyed textiles and hand carved wooden mirrors for Dorset Art Weeks

Driving  to Townhill Farmhouse on Tuesday in the pouring rain, the field alongside the lane was full of newly-sheared, virgin white sheep shivering in the cold and wet.  Not great weather for visiting studios or doing anything else  in June.  I was visiting Annabel Wilson  who makes hangings and light fittings with  fabrics dyed using traditional shibori  techniques. Annabel uses natural and synthetic dyes as appropriate to colour linen, cotton, wool and silk. Moody indigos, soft blues and on such a dreary day her orangey yellow lamps  imparted a lovely warmth to the room.  Paul Swatridge’s finely crafted wooden framed mirrors are also on show.

Pair of gold lamps dyed with rhubarb root  and barberry on silk.
